Happy Veteran's Day tomorrow and I wanted to share some thoughts about why I am thankful for the change/decision these braves souls have made.
Thankful for Change
There are many reasons why I am thankful for change, and on this Veteran's Day I would like to share some of those with you. Veterans across this nation will be honored for their service, their dedication, and most importantly, their sacrifice for our country. I am thankful that these people, many who are mere strangers to me, decided to make the most difficult change in their lives and join the military. Just think you are 17 or 18 years old, have the majority of your life in front of you, and a family that loves you dearly. You decide to make one of the most important changes in your life, become a member of the armed forces; knowing full well that your life and your family's life will never be the same again. You decide to fight for freedom, to protect the ideals that this country was founded on, and know that most of the time you won't get credit, no pat on the back, but you do your job with a deeper gratitude~knowing that your efforts saved many lives or gave freedom to another country's people from dictatorship or a criminal regime. This young person, standing on the front lines in Afghanistan or Iraq, doing all he or she can so that we may be able to say what we want to say, believe in what we want to believe in, and so much more! So, I am thankful for Veterans, for the changes that they have made. For the soldier who never came home, but believed in fighting for our country. For the many families who don't get to see their loved ones, because they are in another country fighting for freedom or paid the ultimate sacrifice. I thank you for the changes you have all made, because without them I would not be able to inspire my students, push and challenge them to be great in a free society, and mostly I thank you all for giving me the freedom to be ME!
Make sure you take some time tomorrow to remember the sacrifices that these Veterans and their families have made! Be thankful for the changes they made in order for us to enjoy the freedoms we do!
Respectfully submitted:
Mr. Brad A. Washuleski
